The Importance of Art

Art isn’t just about colors and shapes. It’s a powerful tool that plays a key role in how a child develops emotionally and mentally. Being creative can help kids develop cognitive, social-emotional, and multisensory skills and fosters an environment where young minds can express themselves. It also helps preschoolers share thoughts, emotions, and ideas they may not have the words for. The benefits of art extend well beyond the art classroom. Research shows art students are more likely to do well in academics, particularly subjects such as math and science. This is because they’re able to think critically and creatively.

Here are some benefits of art for nurturing and developing young minds:

  • Creative expression: Art is an outlet where kids share thoughts, feelings, and ideas. This develops self-expression and individuality, which is vital for their personal development.
  • Fine motor skills: Drawing, coloring, and painting help children develop fine motor skills. It requires hand-eye coordination and control, which are essential for tasks such as writing.
  • Cognitive development: Art encourages cognitive development by stimulating the imagination and critical thinking. Children learn to make decisions, solve problems, and think outside the box.
  • Language development: Art can improve language and communication skills. Kids can describe colors and shapes, and chat with peers and teachers about their creations.
  • Emotional regulation: Art provides a healthy outlet for managing emotions and stress. Preschoolers can use art to express joy, frustration, or even sadness.
  • Social interaction: Art offers opportunities for social interaction and collaboration. Children can work on group projects and share materials, building important social skills.
  • Confidence: Positive feedback and encouragement can boost self-esteem and confidence.
  • Patience and perseverance: Completing art projects requires patience and perseverance. This teaches kids the satisfaction of seeing a project through to the end.
  • Cultural awareness: Art exposes children to different forms of expression from different cultures. This can help teach tolerance.

Art Studio at Crème de la Crème

At Crème de la Crème, we understand the importance of art in helping kids learn and grow. Our Art Studio is a 30-minute enrichment program that encourages creativity and individuality. Here, kids can swap subjects such as science and technology for something more creative.

Our art teachers encourage kids to use the right side of their brain (the creative side) through a blend of structured guidance and freedom of expression. This means kids can create, explore, and let their imaginations run wild. They enjoy a host of creative activities, such as drawing, coloring, and painting. While they express themselves, they also build self-esteem and develop key life skills, including fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, memory, and self-control.

Classroom Rotation

Art Studio is an important part of our holistic approach to child development at Crème de la Crème. Studies show that preschoolers learn best when they’re stimulated for 30 minutes at a time, seeing and doing something new. Our Art Studio is just one of a larger rotation of classes that we’ve carefully designed to provide a full learning experience.

These classes complement each other to support the development of a well-rounded child. Kids rotate throughout the day to enrichment classrooms where course-specific teachers offer expertise on different subjects. These include subjects such as art, cooking, and technology. They work alongside your child’s primary teacher to offer exciting, interactive learning. Here are a few examples of the other programs that exist within our classroom rotation.

Cooking

Kids learn to appreciate food and develop their tastes and fine motor skills at a young age. The class teaches food prep skills and encourages learners to try new foods.

Music

  • Our music studio is a place where children sing, dance, and play to improve their confidence and memory.

Gym

  • Studies show that kids need at least one hour of physical activity a day. Our gym and outdoor play areas allow children to burn off excess energy while building strength and coordination.

Character Education

  • Kids learn about themselves through drama in our TV studio. This helps develop creativity and self-expression skills.

Languages

  • Our second language library class teaches Mandarin or Spanish. Learning a second language improves communication, as well as memory and concentration.

Creative Movement

  • Our creative movement program encourages kids to use all their senses. This helps improve motor skills, rhythm, strength, flexibility, coordination, and endurance.

Theater

  • The Coconut Theater program offers an immersive learning experience. It encourages kids to build confidence, creativity, and creative thinking skills on stage.

STEAM Lab

  • This teaches the basics of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Kids build scientific experiments, design models, learn to code, and explore robotics.

Technology

  • The digital tech lab introduces kids to the digital world. They learn how to use computers, smart boards, and tablets to prepare them for the modern world.
