Parks are an excellent place for kids of all ages to discover nature and exercise both their bodies and imagination. Spending time outdoors is also a fantastic way to connect with family. Get outside and play at these eight awesome parks in the Lone Tree, Colorado, area.

Prairie Sky Park

Prairie Sky Park at 9381 Crossington Way is a charming little park in the heart of the Lone Tree Commons. It’s well maintained and offers a large sheltered area with picnic tables, grills for cookouts, and electric power. There are water fountains and restrooms nearby, plus plentiful parking.

The kids will enjoy the playground with various climbing equipment and swings, and the whole family will love the lush, open grassy areas for a game of Frisbee. Go ahead and get your friends together for a pickup game on the basketball courts. There are soccer and baseball fields, benches for relaxing, and a variety of local activities hosted weekly. Because it is so large, even on the sunniest days, Prairie Sky Park never feels crowded.

Sweetwater Park

When you’re on the lookout for a place to spend a lovely afternoon, head to Sweetwater Park at 8300-1/2 Sweet Water Road. This neighborhood open space features a playground, a small picnic shelter, basketball courts, and a baseball field.  

You’ll find a paved path around the park’s perimeter and a portable potty. Because of its size and location, there are times when you might have the park all to yourself. This highly underrated oasis is a bit hidden behind the street. Just walk around. You’ll find it.

Bluffs Regional Park Trail

Hikers and runners are going to love a day on the Bluffs Regional Park Trail. This popular and heavily trafficked 3.72-mile, soft-surface loop offers terrific views of Denver and the magnificent Front Range. Work up a sweat with 200-foot elevation gains and some steep 8% grades. Keep your eyes peeled for opportunities to spot a variety of wildlife and flora, particularly between April and October. 

This path is a terrific adventure for all skill levels, and leashed dogs are also welcome. Hit the trail anytime from sunrise to dark and consider going later in the day. If you do, make sure to summit the hill at sunset. You won’t be disappointed with the amazing view.

Fairways at Lone Tree Park

The Fairways at Lone Tree Park at 9607 Troon Village Drive sits between the borders of Lincoln and Yosemite Streets and the 18-hole Lone Tree Golf Course. It features two distinct play areas, one for children 5 years old and under, and another for the older kids.

There’s a pair of picnic pavilions and a small basketball area that’s ideal for practicing your shot. While there aren’t any bathrooms, they do have one portable restroom in the parking lot. 

Cook Creek Park

Located at 8711 Lone Tree Parkway, Cook Creek Park is home to a public pool with slides and water features, tennis courts, and access to the Willow Creek Greenbelt. Take the paved trail north into Arapahoe County or head southwest along the edge of a golf course. From there, it cuts south and meanders through quiet residential neighborhoods.

This short path isn’t a true destination trail. However, it is a nifty place to take younger kids for a short bike ride or a quick stroller jog. This resource also connects users to other local parks and the area’s vast trail system. Leave your vehicle in the Cook Creek Park’s parking lot off of Lone Tree Parkway or park along the street.

Altair Park

Located at 13441 Peacock Dr. behind the Kohl’s shopping center, Altair is your classic neighborhood park that offers outdoor recreation and a scenic natural landscape. It touts sports fields, a playground, walking trails, and plenty of picnic areas. This enchanting park is quiet and the ideal destination for kids to ride their bikes or a pleasant place to walk your dog. 

Highland Heritage Regional Park

If you’re looking for a one-stop park, Highland Heritage Regional Park is the place for you. From playgrounds to sporting events, there’s always something going on at this 92-acre outdoor public space. Located at 9651 S. Quebec St., it offers over 3 miles of paved walking trails, nearly 15 acres of multi-use grass fields for playing soccer and football, a sand volleyball court, and a basketball court.

Don’t miss the free summer concerts on the stage under the amphitheater. There’s also a seasonal concession building, drinking fountains, and two restrooms. Leash up your four-legged friends and bring them along on the adventure. The Hound Hill Dog Park sits at the south end of the park. Highlands Ranch’s lot offers more than 600 spaces to leave your car, plus it has six picnic shelters with electricity. 

Entertainment District Park and Trail

Pick up the Entertainment District Trail from the Village Square Office Complex at 9362 Teddy Lane. It’s located at the southwest corner of Kimmer and Park Meadows Drives and overlooks the park plaza. You’ll find everything you want from an urban outdoor space, including picnic tables, benches, and a shade structure to keep cool on those hot Colorado days.

With lush landscaping and fitness stations along the path, Entertainment District Trail is an ideal place for a workout. Discover the sculptures by local artists on display in the plaza or have a seat and let your gaze rest on the wetlands area. You might even spot a pair of ducks or other wildlife in the water.
