Yoga offers many benefits for your physical, mental, and even spiritual health. It’s linked to improving flexibility, balance, and strength, promoting stress and anxiety management, and helping you to be more mindful. And when kids practice yoga, they can start to reap these benefits early and develop a regular practice that can help as they get older. That’s why Crème de la Crème of Goodyear has put together this list of six yoga classes for kids in and around Goodyear that you should check out.

At Ignite Yoga Studios, your children become superheroes during the studio’s after-school yoga program. The Spark Adventurers program is for children aged 6 to 11 years old and uses a nationally recognized yoga curriculum to teach kids traditional yoga poses, breathing techniques, mindfulness, and self-reflection. Every week’s session combines yoga practice and educational games that also help your kids develop emotional awareness and intelligence. They meet different “emotional sparks,” Marshmallow the Happy Flame, Outlaw the Angry Flame, and Ember the Calm Flame. These sessions help kids identify their feelings, express them, and manage them effectively.

In addition to this multi-week program, Ignite Studios offers a 20-hour yoga teacher training course in kids yoga. This online training program helps yogis looking to advance their teaching practice as well as parents and caregivers who want to help their children learn the important facets of yoga. You can learn different instruction techniques that keep kids engaged in yoga practice as well as games that help kids develop emotional management, mindfulness, and stress relief.

Ignite Yoga Studios is located at 5110 N. Dysart Road, Suite A-166 in nearby Litchfield Park.

The Wellness Center

The Wellness Center is a holistic therapy center that also offers yoga classes for yogis of all practice levels. Adult yogis can take classes like aerial silk yoga, chair yoga, restorative yoga, and the intensive Ashtanga yoga. But this studio also offers Yoga Foundations, a class that teaches basic techniques, including breathing, foundational poses, and mindfulness during practice. This class welcomes practitioners with varying abilities and experience with yoga. In addition, the Wellness Center has been known to offer family and children’s yoga classes on occasion, too.

Valley of the Sun YMCA

There are a few Y locations around the Goodyear area where you can find family and kids yoga classes, among many other group fitness classes. In fact, some of the beginner classes and simple Flow Yoga sessions welcome yogis of all ages and levels. Class availability and schedules can vary by location and month, so check the Y’s online schedule.

If you’re a member of the Y, you automatically get access to its online fitness class portal, the Virtual Y. You’ll find on-demand and live virtual fitness classes, including yoga. You can put one of these on and have the kids join you for family fitness fun without leaving home. Or, put on Cosmic Kids Yoga, on-demand kid-focused classes that teach poses, flows, relaxation, and mindfulness. These classes are meant for children ages 3 and up, and you can access them from the Valley of the Sun Y’s website or YouTube.

Gilbert Yoga

You can find a few different opportunities to get your children involved in yoga at Gilbert Yoga. This studio offers multiple sessions of its All Level and Beginner Yoga classes, which guide yogis through a series of basic and advanced postures (with modifications available) and mindfulness training. These classes would be a great option for both parents and kids to practice together or to introduce your child to yoga.

If your children are ready to jump right into yoga practice by themselves, you can register them for kids yoga classes, where they practice alongside their peers. Gilbert Yoga also offers family yoga classes where you can join your child and other families in a fun and focused yoga session. Both of these options are best for children ages 3 years old and up.

Gilbert Yoga is located at 655 N. Gilbert Road, Suite 162 in Gilbert, Arizona.

Sumits Yoga Chandler

Sumits Yoga specializes in a variety of hot yoga classes for adult yogis of all levels. But this studio also offers kids yoga throughout the month, often on Sunday mornings. The Kids Yoga class is non-heated, so it’s a comfortable environment for gentle and fun yoga practice featuring kid-friendly poses, yoga games, music, and arts and crafts. This class welcomes children ages 5 to 10 years old.

What’s more, you can bring your kids to the studio and take a class at the same time. While you aren’t practicing in the same room, you can all share in the experience of stretching, breathing, and centering your mind, body, and soul.

You can find Sumits Yoga at 4080 W. Ray Road in nearby Chandler.

AZ Goat Yoga

Combine the relaxing experience of yoga with the fun of going to a petting zoo. During a class with AZ Goat Yoga, you complete a guided yoga flow outdoors in the beautiful Arizona weather while cute little goats visit you at your mat. You may even get to hang out with alpacas and Maisy the cow, too.

These classes are family-friendly and welcome yogis of all levels and ages. AZ Goat Yoga even hosts fun themed classes, like ugly sweater goat yoga during the winter holiday season and an ’80s dress-up party.
