If you have lived in Westerville, Ohio, for any length of time, you know where all the best entertainment locations are for both kids and family. But there are also annual events and festivals that make the area even more fun. If you are looking for something extra special to do with your family, mark some of these events down on your calendar.

Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Friday Festivals

There are lots of things to do in Westerville’s Uptown area on Fridays, including the Fourth Friday Festival that occurs every fourth Friday of the month May through October. Each Friday has a different theme, like a Celebration of Health for May when local health systems, fitness instructors, and others open their arms to help the area gain more resources to maintain their health.

In June, locals and residents alike enjoy the beauty of classic cars and bikes lining State Street along with pop-up vendors, live music, food trucks, and more. Small businesses stay open late and anyone with a classic car or bike can enter the show.

July brings music and art together to celebrate local artists of many genres. With more extended hours and food trucks, it’s easy to get lost in the art world during this Fourth Friday event.

August brings pets to the city with dog races and other fun activities for both pets and their owners. Also in August, the city showcases the world’s cultures with different music, dance, food, and interesting facts about cultures from around the world.

The Westerville Saturday Farmers Market

Whether you enjoy cooking or just like locally grown food fresh, the Westerville Saturday Farmers Market is a great place to find farm-fresh products from the area. The Farmers market occurs on Saturday mornings starting in late May and running through mid-October. You can find the market behind the Westerville City Hall building at 21 S. State St.

Uptown Untapped

Uptown Untapped is a local event that features local craft brews, musicians, eatery options, and more. This October celebration recognizes the area’s rich history in the Uptown district. No longer the “Dry Capital of the World,” Westerville enjoys lively saloons and entertainment all throughout the city.

The Uptown Cookie Walk takes families through the historic district of the region as they visit businesses and shops and enjoy gourmet cookies along the way. When the day of the event arrives, everyone with a ticket starts at the Amish Original Furniture Company to get a passport for the day. Then, you navigate your way through Uptown, checking off all of the destinations on the walk. Tickets are $12 and anyone who returns their completed map at the end of the day is in a drawing for area gift cards.

Magical Midnight Madness

Halloween is a special time of the year all over the country, but the Magical Midnight Madness event in Westerville makes it all that much more fun. Kids, adults, and whole families are invited to Uptown in their costumes to enjoy trick or treating in the stores and other fun, safe Halloween activities. Enjoy live animals, puppet shows, Haunted Hollows, and lots more. The activities are free and good for all ages.

Holidays in Uptown

November and December are filled with activities for Holidays in Uptown Westerville. The Westerville Public Library hosts a variety of holiday events starting in mid-November and rolling all the way through Christmas. Uptown shops offer special gift options, including historic items like the coffee table book on the city, which was often referred to as the War Machine of Prohibition.

Ghost Story Tours

If you love the unexplained, the Westerville Ghost Story tours might be right up your alley. Local individuals have collected stories from all over the community and combined them into a historical, theatrical, entertaining walking tour. The tours cost $20 per person and are available on most Friday and Saturday evenings. With over a dozen stops on the tour and performances from actors from Good Medicine Productions, the tour is often something residents and visitors won’t forget.

The Ohio State Fair

Since Columbus, Ohio, is just a 20-minute drive away, the Ohio State Fair is an area favorite for locals and visitors alike. This state fair has been a beloved tradition since 1850, though it has evolved over the years. The Butter Cow, for example, was introduced in 1903, but still thrives as a popular attraction today. There are also interactive, educational activities for all ages, several performance stages, a free petting zoo, fun rides, horse shows, fair goodies, and so much more.

The Ohio State Fair generally hosts over 1 million people each year and brings big acts like Reba McEntire and Toby Keith. The fair also puts on the largest fireworks display in the state. Mark the calendar for the end of July and the beginning of August for this fun event.

Columbus’ Restaurant Week

Columbus has a growing reputation as an up-and-coming culinary area in the country and the food scene includes top-ranked chefs along with great farm-to-table fare. During Restaurant Week, which happens several times a year during different seasons, chosen restaurants offer special deals on menu items to let consumers try some of the best places in the city at a great price. Many restaurants also offer carryout options and deals for those who wish to dine at home.

Wildlights

During the winter months when things are darker throughout the state, Central Ohio’s favorite attraction, the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, offers Wildlights. With millions of LED lights, musical light shows, Santa and his reindeer, animals, and other holiday festivities, this is a great place to visit for any family.
