The Chef Xperience

The Chef Xperience has a variety of programs aimed at children’s cooking, including mobile cooking classes for kids and families. The instructors introduce children to good ingredients and teach them how to build a meal while focusing on kitchen safety and learning to read recipes and food labels. Their classes teach the cooking techniques of professional chefs and include options such as: 

  • Holiday and school break cooking camps for kids ages 5 to 15.

The Cook’s Warehouse

The Cook’s Warehouse has a wide variety of kids’ classes and camps, including a hands-on children’s class called Passport to Europe, which focuses on making dishes from Italy, France, Greece, Spain, and Germany. Kids will learn how to make appetizers, main courses, and desserts for each country. Passport to Europe is offered for children ages 6 to 11 and 12 to 16.

Wild and Wacky Foods is a fun class with a playful approach to food, including kids’ classic favorites and recreating copycat recipes from restaurants such as the Disney-inspired Churro Bites with Chocolate Sauce, Taco Bell-inspired CrunchWrap Supremes, and a new take on old favorites such as Fruity Pebble Dip and brown butter caramel Rice Krispie treats. Wild and Wacky Foods is open for bakers ages 12 to 16.

Essential Recipes is available to students ages 12 to 16 to learn the basics of cooking various appetizers, main courses, and desserts. French patisserie teaches teens ages 13 to 16 a wide array of French savory and sweet pastry making, including crème brulee, chocolate souffle, chocolate mousse, ham and gruyere crepes, eclairs, cream puffs, and other treats.

Cozymeal

Cozymeal has a bunch of cool kid classes, including one that’s a sushi rolling party. Chef Shahida teaches kids to chop vegetables properly and safely for miso soup and then to make two different sushi rolls. The class also teaches how to create sushi-inspired desserts with Rice Krispies and fruit roll-ups. Next is a cupcake and ice cream party, where kids will receive hands-on instruction about how to create sweet treats. Chef Chris guides students in making delicious chocolate with vanilla-swirl cupcakes and mint chocolate chip ice cream from scratch.

Another available class is a pasta-making party. Chef Chris instructs students to create fried zucchini sticks appetizers and handmade fettuccine noodles and meatballs with marinara sauce to top their pasta creations. Finally, they’ll learn how to make homemade chocolate gelato for dessert.

Primo pizza party teaches students how to prepare their own pizza from scratch. First, Chef Chris teaches kids how to make appetizer skewers of mozzarella, tomato, and basil. They’ll also receive instructions on kneading and shaping pizza dough and creating a marinara sauce for their Margherita pizzas. Finally, there is a lesson in making dessert pizza with chocolate hazelnut spread. All classes are for ages 5 to 15, and a parent must accompany the child.

Cake Art

If sweets are your child’s weakness, check out Cake Art so you can learn together how to decorate cakes, make homemade candy, and more. Cake Art does require an adult to be present with all children attending classes, making it an excellent one-on-one experience for you and your child. Beginner classes at Cake Art include:

Cake Art I — Basic Decorating

You and your child will learn how to make decorating icing the color you want, prepare and fill your cake decorating bags, and a few basic steps of cake decorating. This course consists of four two-hour sessions for learning how to torte, level, fill, and frost a cake, as well as how to decorate cakes with several different border designs. Cake Art I is a prerequisite for most of Cake Art’s classes. Children ages 12 to 15 are welcome to attend with an adult. After completing the basic decorating class, you can move on to learn how to make flowers and use fondant and gumpaste on cakes with additional courses.

Candy Making 1-2-3 — Unlock the Secrets of Homemade Candy!

Candy Making is one two-hour session on how to melt chocolate candies, make dipped and molded chocolates, and how to make various barks with chocolates and crunches. You and your child will participate in this demonstration to learn about making candy, complete with samples and recipes at the end. Children 8 years and up can attend the Candy Making session with an adult.

Petit Fours — Bite-Size Cakes for All Occasions!

Children 12 to 15 are invited to participate with an adult in the Petit Fours class to learn how to make and decorate mini-cakes. Petit Fours are perfect for special occasions such as baby or bridal showers. Cake Art I is a prerequisite for the Petit Fours course.

Kroger Chef Junior 

Your local Kroger supermarket hosts Kroger Chef Junior, a cooking class for children held on Saturday mornings. Kroger Chefs will guide your kids in making various recipes, like holiday brownies. This class includes take-home treats for your child, including an apron, a chef’s hat, a recipe card, a recipe box, a patch, and Kroger chef cookie cutters so they can continue cooking at home.
