The McKinney Public Library, also known as the Roy and Helen Hall Memorial Library, is located at 101 E. Hunt St. in McKinney, Texas, with open hours from Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. You’ll find fiction, nonfiction, reference, and more on the shelves. The library has an extensive teen collection featuring young adult and graphic novels. You’ll also find a wide variety of children’s picture books.

McKinney Public Library participates in the interlibrary loan program, allowing you to check out books from other local libraries without leaving McKinney. In addition to the vast collection of books, the Roy and Helen Hall Memorial Library has many other offerings, from e-books to concerts.

E-books

While your library has a plethora of traditional books, they also have e-book services. McKinney Public Library has the following eBook services:

  • Biblioboard e-books.
  • EBSCO e-books.
  • E-book Central for reference e-books.
  • Salem Press for reference books.
  • Project Gutenberg for public domain e-books.

The Internet Archive Service also has free movies, software, music, websites, streaming videos, and e-books. Offerings include over 220,000 e-books in EPUB format and e-audiobooks, plus 7,500 digital magazines and newspapers in 44 different languages.

Book Clubs

McKinney Public Library has a variety of Book Clubs to suit the diverse tastes of readers at any level. The Book Clubs include contemporary, classic, true crime, and young adult. A Book Club is a great way to read new books and discuss them with the group, learn about various subjects, and meet new friends. McKinney Story Trail

Each month the public library installs a new story around the looped walking trail at Finch Park. The book is presented page by page on enclosed pedestals that you can read as you walk around the trail. The McKinney Story Trail is a great way to get your body moving while keeping your brain entertained with a good story.

Meeting and Study Rooms

The public library also has meeting and study rooms available to rent for your group’s monthly meetings, a one-time planning session for an upcoming event, and more. The meeting room is available for $20 an hour, with a two-hour minimum. The conference room is available for $10 an hour, with a two-hour minimum. Study rooms are free of charge but must be reserved in advance. Six study rooms are available, each with seating for up to four people. Study rooms can be reserved for two hours once a day.

English as a Second Language (ESL)

McKinney Public Library offers free English as a Second Language (ESL) classes. These classes are available through Collin Adult Education and Literacy, held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the McKinney Public Library. In addition, there are helpful resources, including books, CDs, and DVDs, which can all be found in the 400s nonfiction sections. A special nonfiction collection is also housed at the public library.

Children’s Programs

The library hosts programs for little ones from birth to 5 years old, such as Little Ones Lapsit, with simple books, movement, rhymes, and bounces to encourage early literacy and improve motor skills. Wobblers and Walkers is for ages 10 to 16 months with rhymes and songs. Stop by the McKinney Public Library for Little Explorers if you have a 3- to 5-year-old for a STEAM storytime, a multilingual storytime, or a pre-K storytime. There are also music, art, and science programs for children in kindergarten through fifth grade at the public library.

Programs for All Ages

The McKinney Public Library hosts special programs for all ages, such as:

  • Fall Festival.
  • Autumn Moon Festival.
  • Diwali.
  • Fiesta: a Celebration of Hispanic Heritage.
  • Halloween Haunt.
  • Thanks and Giving.
  • Deck the Hall.

The library also offers other programs, such as information on buying a home, writing a business plan, investigating genealogy, and much more. Craft classes have an event called Treat Yo Shelf, which combines a love of books with a shelving crafting project. They also have a craft class called Crafts From the Past, where you can delve into creating crafts from bygone years.

McKinney Public Library also offers classes such as Digital Art 101 or Robotics. You can also learn how to play chess with Introduction to Chess, and once you’ve learned a bit and want to practice, there’s a Saturday chess meetup. Role-playing game aficionados can discuss tools, tips, and strategies for tabletop role-playing games at the Pen and Paper RPG Club. Brush up on your computer skills and learn new ones. The library has a range of computer classes, including SQL basics, HTML/CSS basics, and introduction to Python.

You can also take advantage of the opportunity to see live mini-concerts in an intimate setting. Various musicians come and play for patrons on Saturday afternoons at 1 p.m. at the McKinney Public Library. Check the website for exact dates.

McKinney Public Library also offers various informational programs for the senior population. Helpful programs include:

  • A Medicare Information Seminar.
  • Social Security Basics.
  • Introduction to SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives).
