The Trinity River Kayak Company

The Trinity River Kayak Company offers kayak trips covering 22 miles of the Trinity River’s Elm Fork. Kids and adults alike will enjoy paddling down the river and occasionally stopping to observe the wildlife, have a snack, or cool off in the water. Choose from four different river adventures, each ranging from 2 to 12 miles long. Fishing is permitted, but anyone over the age of 16 will need a valid fishing license.
The Trinity River is flat with no rapids or rushing water, making it a safe place for beginners and kids to experience kayaking. Children ages 5-10 are welcome to paddle with a parent in a tandem canoe or kayak, and kids 8 and up can use a single kayak if they’d like. While the river is calm, adults are encouraged, and children are required to wear life jackets at all times.
When you book your trip, a life jacket, kayak or canoe, paddles, and shuttle service are included in the rental fee. If you own a kayak, you’re free to bring it and pay a reduced fee for shuttle service only. Hours are seasonal, so call before you go.
Coppell Nature Park
Ready to get outside and enjoy the fresh air? Try Coppell Nature Park. Located on Coppell’s west side, the park encompasses 66 acres of natural space. Five miles of trails wind through the area, giving you an easy, safe way to explore the outdoors with your kids. Many animals, including hawks, coyotes, and deer, make their homes in the park, and over 130 bird species migrate through each year.
Don’t miss the Biodiversity Education Center located inside the park, and don’t forget to grab a free activity kit while you’re there. Each kit contains instructions for learning activities designed to pique kids’ interests and keep them engaged while they explore the park’s trails. Classes and guided hikes are held periodically, giving the entire family a chance to learn more about the local plants and wildlife. Check the center’s Facebook page for information on weekly kit themes and to get the upcoming schedules for hikes and classes. The park opens 30 minutes before sunrise and closes 30 minutes after sunset. The education center’s hours vary, so check its website before you go.
Andy Brown Park East
Andy Brown Park is Coppell’s largest park. At almost 120 acres, the park features a small lake with a fishing pier and plenty of large open spaces to explore. An outdoor theater, where the city of Coppell holds movie nights during the warmer months, is a popular park attraction. The movies they show are family-friendly, and food trucks often park near the theater’s entrance. Take an evening off from cooking, and go enjoy a fun family night together.
One of Andy Brown Park’s most impressive features is its playground, which includes rock climbing walls, tire swings, monkey bars, an interactive music center, and several winding paths to explore. Trees provide shade, and multiple benches offer parents plenty of places to sit and watch the kids play. A “tot lot” for babies and toddlers has three baby swings and is attached to the older kids’ play area, making it easier to keep both younger and older children safe and entertained.
Urban Air Adventure Park
Want to make sure your kids are tired out for naptime? Then don’t miss Coppell’s Urban Air Adventure Park. This indoor playground features several attractions the entire family will enjoy. The park’s impressive variety of trampolines is its ultimate draw, but it has several other attractions as well. The park’s Warrior Course houses several obstacles that’ll test your balance, stamina, and strength. A large tube playground provides multiple enclosed slides and tubes where kids can play and explore. A special area just for kids 7 and under houses wall-to-wall trampolines away from the big kids, giving the little ones a safe space to play. Comfortable seating is provided for parents.
Older kids will enjoy the Slam Dunk Zone. This area features long-track trampolines leading to basketball goals where you can get a running start, fly through the air, and dunk the ball in the net. Play a game of family dodgeball, battle it out on the battle beam, or perfect your backflip on the tumble track during your visit. Hours and prices vary, so check the website before you head out.
LEGOLAND Discovery Center
LEGOLAND Discovery Center is located in Grapevine, just 10 minutes from Coppell. This indoor activity center is designed for kids ages 3-10, but almost anyone who enjoys Legos will enjoy spending a few hours there. Don’t miss the center’s three interactive rides, LEGO 4D cinema, and LEGO Virtual Reality Experience. Entertain younger children in the DUPLO Village while the older ones explore MINILAND. While most of the center is indoors, Pirate Beach, an outdoor water playground and splash park is open to guests in the summer.
LEGOLAND organizes family field trips that incorporate educational concepts into fun activities. For instance, your child can build a Lego race car and then calculate its speed. In another, they may get a chance to explore the Lego factory, record their observations, and use them to create an instruction manual. The center offers an almost endless supply of activities for kids that are fun and educational.
