A.L. Burruss Nature Park

Kids love getting out in nature, whether it’s to look for bugs, run through the woods chasing butterflies, or skip down forested trails feeling the wind in their hair. When you take the family to the 45.66-acre A.L. Burruss Nature Park, your kids can enjoy the hiking trails or practice their off-road bicycle-riding skills while getting exercise and having fun.

Hiking and bike riding takes a lot of energy, so you’ll want to bring a lunch with you to share with your friends and family at one of the picnic tables you’ll find at A.L. Burruss Nature Park. If you’re celebrating a birthday party, be sure to come to the park early and set up the food and cake at the picnic pavilion that can accommodate up to 36 people.

Ready Set FUN!

Not only is Ready Set FUN! the perfect place to hold a birthday party, but this venue also offers activity classes any child will enjoy. Once a week, the staff holds two hands-on interactive 50-minute classes for kids ages 3 to 8.

Your child can take yoga, which helps them develop strength, flexibility, and body awareness. In the gardening class, kids will learn how to work the soil, play in the mud, pot plants and herbs, and better understand where some of the food they eat comes from. Aspiring dancers will appreciate the expressive dance class, and energetic youngsters will get a kick out of the agility class where they can jump around and burn off energy. Calmer classes include painting, seasonal crafts, music, and cooking.

East Cobb Park

East Cobb Park is one of the area’s premier parks for recreation and nature experiences. You won’t find any structured play or sports facilities at this park, as the park district keeps this as a passive park. What you do get is plenty of open space to run around and play your own games, like tossing a Frisbee or throwing a ball for your dog. Your kids can also enjoy the playgrounds.

East Cobb Park is the perfect place to hold a family reunion, a birthday party, or other special events as you can reserve sheltered pavilion areas. Anyone who spends time at this lovely park has access to restrooms and drinking water.

McCleskey-East Cobb Family YMCA

Since 1989, families and individuals have used the services offered at the McCleskey-East Cobb Family YMCA. When you come to this YMCA, you and your kids can use the two lighted tennis courts, three full-sized soccer fields, and an outside exercise circuit. When the weather turns temperamental, you can use the indoor swimming pool, indoor track, gymnasium, and racquetball/squash courts.

Kids who enjoy organized sports can participate in programs teaching them how to play basketball, flag football, and soccer. The professional instructors at the McCleskey-East Cobb Family YMCA offer swim lessons, and kids will have the opportunity to join the swim team if they have a YMCA membership and can demonstrate select swimming skills. Youngsters can also take advantage of school break camp and summer day camp where they can play, have fun, and make new friends in a stress-free environment.
