Kindred Creatives Art and Literary Press

Kindred Creatives Art and Literary Press is a local bookstore, zine publisher, and writing workshop destination. This local spot focuses on featuring Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) writers and creatives. That makes Kindred Creatives one of the best places in the Coppell area to get all sorts of books, ranging from fiction to poetry to nonfiction, by and about BIPOC folks. 

In the shop, you’ll find the Library-Literacy Corner where you can donate books to swap for others in their collection and even participate in tutoring. This area is meant to promote literacy for people of all ages. You’ll also find the bookstore itself, featuring titles by BIPOC authors both new and renowned. Plus, local creatives can even rent out an area of the store to sell their own books and creative items, which supports the store and the individual sellers. In addition to shopping and tutoring, Kindred Creatives hosts writing workshops, author talks, and other literary events.

Titan Comics

Titan Comics has been around since 1991, and this store purchases all sorts of lightly used (and even mint-condition) comics. You can find titles from different comic ages across the store’s collection of 18,000 trade paperback books. They also sell the latest editions of many current series, and they have titles from publishers from around the world, including major superhero comics publishers Marvel and DC. This store also sells gifts and memorabilia, like Funko Pops, attire, posters, and more. Plus, you can sign up for a weekly subscription service to make sure you never miss a new release.

Boomerang Comics

Need even more comics in your life? Coppell is actually smack-dab in between the previously mentioned Titan Comics and Boomerang Comics, so you’re never too far from an amazing comics shop. You can shop here for old series and new releases from your favorite publishers, including major names like Marvel, DC, and Dark Horse as well as indie publishers like Oni Press and Zenescope. You’ll find manga and graphic novels, too. Like Titan Comics, Boomerang Comics allows you to sign up for a subscription service that ensures you get all the newest editions of current series you love.

But what sets Boomerang Comics apart is that this store actually sells games, too. So, you can shop for classic and new tabletop games, including board games, role-playing games (RPGs), card games, and strategy games. This shop also hosts events, like meet ups for fans of certain series and even a book club. While events are temporarily suspended, keep an eye on their site and social media for when they return.

Interabang Books

Interabang Books originally opened in 2017 but was destroyed by a tornado, and they moved to their Lovers Lane location in 2019. This store will clearly stop at nothing to excite people about reading, no matter what genres they love engaging with. At Interabang Books, you can enjoy browsing a variety of books from adult and young adult fiction to nonfiction and biographies to children’s books and everything in between. Plus, everyone who works in the store, including co-owner Lori, is an avid reader who loves providing personalized recommendations.

This bookstore has a variety of events you can attend, including monthly meetings of the adult’s book club, talks with authors and publishers, and seasonal story events. You can also listen to co-owner Lori’s podcast with UK publisher Sam Jordison, called “Across the Pond.” And if your children can’t get enough books to read, consider signing up for a Children’s Book of the Month subscription for their age group so they can get a new book every month.

Book Nara

Book Nara is a small local shop that sells Korean books, bibles, and more. This is a fantastic shop to visit if you, your children, or a friend or relative are learning Korean and need more material with which to practice the language. If you already speak Korean, it should be your go-to spot for books and media in your language. Book Nara also sells toys, gifts, and music, including K-pop albums. So, if you or someone you know is really into K-pop bands, you’re sure to find the music here.

Book Nara Dallas is located in the Korean Mall/Shops at Old Denton. The address is 2625 Old Denton Road Suite 328 in nearby Carrollton.

Lucky Dog Books

Lucky Dog Books sells gently used, or what they call “recycled,” books in practically all genres. You’ll also find music (in the form of CDs, cassettes, and even 8-tracks), movies and TV shows, and other media, too. Some of the types of books you can purchase or sell here include fiction, nonfiction, sheet music, foreign language books, and children’s books. Be sure to follow their Facebook page to see updates on resumed events, new arrivals, and specials.

There are two Lucky Dog Books locations near Coppell: the Oak Cliff location at 911 W. Jefferson and the East Dallas location at 10534 Garland Road.
