Conner Prairie

With its distinguished designation as a Smithsonian affiliate, Conner Prairie is one of the top attractions in the greater Fishers region. This outdoor museum offers visitors an impressive range of hands-on activities that adults and kids will enjoy and learn from. Learn how the Lenape Indian tribe lived in the early 1800s and experience a living pioneer museum from the same time frame. Visit animals and play on the outdoor or indoor playground. Take a nature walk or create something new in the Spark!Lab. There’s truly something for everyone at this incredible attraction.

Nickel Plate Express

Just 10 minutes north of Fishers, train lovers of all ages can delight in a ride on the Nickel Plate Express. This nonprofit offers a variety of themed train rides throughout the year, including annual favorites for the kids like the Reindeer Express and Easter Express. All rides are an hour or hour and a half and include round-trip service from the historic 150-year-old train depot in Noblesville. Kids and adults alike will love riding on the second story of the two-level passenger train cars, enjoying great views and a quiet ride.

Monon Trail

For the cycling family, you can’t beat the Monon Trail. This train-track-turned-bike-trail features an impressive 25-plus miles of relatively flat and straight car-free bike trail great for families with kids just learning to ride, parents pulling trailers with toddlers, or big kids ready to put in the miles. You can jump on the trail at many points, but the closest starting point to Fishers is in Carmel, just 15 minutes west. If you don’t have your own bikes, you can rent them along the trail, including electric bikes in Carmel.

Strawtown Koteewi Park

One of the most impressive parks in Hamilton County, Strawtown Koteewi Park in Noblesville features a truly amazing range of activities for visitors to enjoy. Take the family out with water gear in the summer for fishing and boating. Bring a tent and take advantage of the campgrounds. In the winter months, you can enjoy the tubing hill. Other top attractions include an archery center, a high ropes course, an equestrian center, a natural history center, and a range of nature trails. Strawtown Koteewi Park is built for the family to enjoy year-round.

Fuel Tank

Whether you’re an accomplished skater or new to the ice, the Fuel Tank, located conveniently in Fishers, is a top-notch skating rink to practice your stick work or double axels. The rink offers several classes and training opportunities for both figure skaters and hockey players, all ranging from beginner to advanced options. There are also public skating times for anyone to come in and enjoy the rink. Sign your kids up for regular lessons or leagues, or take advantage of the public skate and go as a family.

Ignite

Libraries are typically a great spot for kids, with books, of course, but also stellar programming for the whole family. The Hamilton East Public Library in Fishers has not only a fantastic collection of books and excellent programming but also an excellent maker’s space called Ignite. You’ll find 3D printers, a maker area full of art supplies, a recording studio, and a tech space. Patrons can also take maker’s kits home with them to continue the exploration after the library closes.

Saxony Lake and Beach

Fishers is lucky enough to have its very own beach right in town. This beautiful lake is an impressive 20 acres with a 300-foot beach for water lovers to enjoy. Open from Memorial Day to Labor Day, Saxony Beach allows you to take the family out to play in the sand, swim, or fish. You can rent kayaks and stand-up paddleboards for use too. There’s also a lovely nature trail along the lake if you want to get in some exercise or see the lake and beach from a different perspective.

StoryWalk

A whimsical attraction for families is the StoryWalk located throughout the Fishers park system. Every month, a different park features a StoryWalk, a quarter-mile trail with a book posted throughout the walk. It’s a great activity for kids under 6 years old especially, but the whole family can take advantage of the reading fun. StoryWalks are a collaboration with the park system and the Hamilton County Library system.
