One of the best things about living in the community of Colleyville is its hometown spirit. Every special event the city hosts offers free admission and provides something for everyone in the family to enjoy, like a concert in the plaza. This seasonal live performance series kicks off in March with “Springtime in America.”

Catch acts such as Fort Worth Brass, The Texas Trouble Band, and the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra every Sunday afternoon at the City Hall Plaza. Nightowl Coffee is on-site to provide free refreshments as well, so grab your lawn chairs or a blanket and get ready to boogie down.

Visit Colleyville Nature Center

Colleyville Nature Center on Mill Wood Drive hosts a variety of free events for residents. Kids will enjoy gathering with other young Lone Start State locals to celebrate occasions such as Texas Junior Anglers Day in April. Children 16 years and under can drop a line in the center’s freshly stocked pond and compete for prizes with their best catch of the day.

Stop by this 46-acre preserve on Arbor Day and take home a free tree and T-shirt or don your best costume and spend a frightfully good time at Haunted Trail Fest each October. There’s a spooky trail, carnival games, and kids 12 and younger get to pick a free pumpkin from the patch.

Drive to the Colleyville Car Show

Gear heads of all ages will love the annual Colleyville Car Show. This free event is open to the public each April and features live music, food, and fun for the whole family. So pile in the car and head to the south side of City Hall on Main Street to stroll past some of the area’s hottest automobiles.

You can bring your well-behaved, leashed dog to this outdoor event, too. If someone in your family has a vintage car, truck, or even a bike you’d like to enter, there’s no fee to register. Sign up via email for a guaranteed spot and win a trophy in categories such as:

  • Best in Show.
  • Mayor’s Choice.
  • Best Import.
  • Best Domestic.
  • Best Interior.
  • Best Exterior.
  • People’s Choice (first through third places.)

Show Your Spirit at Stars and Guitars

Stars and Guitars is Colleyville’s annual patriotic celebration. This gratis event takes place in June at the City Park and offers a free concert with performances by greats like Grammy award-winning country artist Jo Dee Messina. Free parking is available in City Hall’s south lot and at the City Park’s lot until full. First Colleyville Church offers overflow parking, and there’s even a complimentary shuttle to the event.

Make the south lawn your family’s first stop for free attractions for kids as young as two, like face painting, balloon artists, pony rides, and a petting zoo. After everyone works up an appetite, find the gourmet food trucks such as Salsa Limon and Ms. Piggys lining the parking lot near the west side of City Hall. Of course, you’ll want to stick around after the concert for the fireworks display. Reserve seating does come with a fee. However, it includes a table near the stage with seating for up to six guests.

Enjoy Storytime at the Living Science Center

The Living Science Center sits on the grounds of Legacy Park on Northwest Green Oaks Boulevard in nearby Arlington. This 1,300-acre urban oasis along the Trinity River offers residents free access to 18 miles of biking and hiking trails, picnic areas, and various playscapes for after-school fun.

The Center also offers families a free, outdoor storytime in partnership with Arlington Public Library on select days and times. You and your toddlers will get to hear two stories at this weather-permitting event, and then you’ll meet one of the park’s animal ambassadors, like an opossum, snake, or turtle. River Legacy also offers tons of free online learning opportunities on its website.

Dallas Museum of Art

Located about 30 minutes from Colleyville on North Harwood Street, the Dallas Museum of Art offers families free general admission. This complimentary ticket includes access to the galleries and most exhibitions, including roughly 25,000 pieces that span more than 5,000 years of creativity.

This local treasure makes access to art easy for Texas families. Its halls represent many different cultures, with departments covering Islamic, American, Asian, and African art. Explore objects that represent:

  • Clothing and jewelry.
  • Technology.
  • Beasts and monsters.
  • Climates
  • Colors.
  • Sacred objects.
  • Motifs.

Let Loose at Klyde Warren Park

Give the kid’s a quick stroller ride and head to Klyde Warren Park. It’s just a 2-minute walk from our last recommendation, the Dallas Museum of Art. Make it a free day at this 5.2-acre downtown oasis at Woodall Rodgers Freeway. Stop by for periodic community events, like Independence Day fireworks and Christmas galas.

Experience the best Dallas has to offer with loads of family-friendly activities. Check out a lawn game, like cornhole or Frisbee, or stop in every Sunday for a teacher-led hour filled with music and stories for your little ones. The children’s park is a terrific place for the kids to unwind after being on their best behavior at the art museum. Bring a brown bag lunch and have a “free” picnic lunch on the grass or grab something to eat from the food trucks in the parking lot.Well, that’s a wrap!
