Settlement to City Museums

Located about 6 miles northeast of Colleyville in Grapevine, the Settlement to City Museums contain a collection of 19th-century structures that allow you to experience settlement history. You can walk inside the Donald Schoolhouse and compare how children learned in the 1900s to how they learn today.

The Keeling House Museum is a historic home from 1888 that contains a variety of nostalgic artifacts, including items from Grapevine’s police and fire departments, personal items of historic community members, and a working 1881 Chandler and Price Press. The Grapevine Cotton Ginner’s Museum features hands-on activities that take you back to a time when cotton was king in the area. The museums are open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

Nash Farm

Nash Farm is a historic farm and museum in Grapevine that lets you step into the past and experience what life was like on a late 19th-century farm. The historic structures, farm grounds, and exhibits are open for self-guided tours. Group tours are also available on the 5.2-acre farm. The tours include the farmhouse Thomas Jefferson Nash built in 1869, the historic barn, and the cemetery.

Nash Farm also offers a variety of guided activities and events throughout the year, such as a Victorian Christmas, First Fridays, and Farm-to-Fork dining experiences. If you want to enjoy an entire day at the farm, you can pack a picnic and enjoy your lunch surrounded by pastures. Nash Farm is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and admission is free.

House of Shine

Whether you’re 5 or 95, you can discover new things about yourself when you visit House of Shine in Grapevine. This interactive museum includes engaging exhibits, programs, and events designed to help you grow and learn. They also offer youth programs designed for a variety of ages. Children between the ages of 4 and 8 can stop by for a storytime. Kids in grades 2 through 5 can create unique crafts during a Shineworks craft class. Older kids and young people enjoy the journaling workshops and StrengthsExplorer classes.

Some of the adult classes at House of Shine include the StrengthsFinder 2.0 classes, Let’s Talk About Things That Matter programs, and the Rise & Shine monthly events. The museum is open Tuesday through Thursday from noon to 6 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Best of all, visiting House of Shine is a budget-friendly Colleyville activity since daily admission is free.

The Station House

If you have a young child fascinated with trains, or you want to learn more about this important part of transportation history, you need to plan a visit to The Station House. Located about 10 miles outside of Colleyville in Keller, this museum was established to display artifacts from the era of railroading. Highlights from the collection include a model train display, an Interurban Wait Station, railroad uniforms and hats, various signs and crossing lights, and a water tower. The museum is open to visitors Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Grapevine Historical Museum

You can enjoy hours of intriguing history when you visit the Grapevine Historical Museum in Grapevine. As you walk through the museum, you’ll go on a journey that highlights the cultural and family life of early residents. Some of the popular exhibits in the museum include a pump organ from the 1870s, three stunningly restored wedding gowns from different eras, and an interactive exhibit featuring Grapevine Mayor William D. Tate that details the story of growing up in Grapevine.

You can investigate the interesting artifacts in the Grandma’s Attic exhibit and explore childhood playtime memories on the porch of the Playhouse. Storyboards at the exhibits provide plenty of information about the history and daily life activities of residents in the area. Admission to the museum is free. It’s open Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Euless Heritage Museum

The Euless Heritage Museum is another excellent museum to visit when you’re interested in learning more about the history of the area. The museum is located 8 miles southeast of Colleyville in Euless and showcases hundreds of historical artifacts. Some of the popular exhibits in the museum include a 1940s schoolroom, a 1930s kitchen, and a military room. The museum is next to Heritage Park, which is a historical area that contains an 1850s log house, the first brick house in Euless, and a barn made of lumber from Camp Bowie.

Make sure you also take time to check out the beautiful mural that features significant pieces of Euless history. It was created exclusively for the museum by artist Lisa McNamara. The museum is open to the public on the second Saturday of every month from 1 to 5 p.m.

International Porcelain Artists and Teachers Museum

The International Porcelain Artists and Teachers Museum in Grapevine was established over 50 years ago and is one of only two porcelain museums in the country. It features porcelain art from all over the world in various styles and techniques. These pieces date from the 19th century to the present.

In addition to cases full of plates, vases, and other traditional porcelain items, the museum also has unique items on display, such as a porcelain octopus and a porcelain flower sculpture. The museum is free to visit and is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. by appointment only.
