Want to give your child that extra edge at the beginning of the school year? Help your child do well in school next fall by preventing the summer brain drain!
Summer brain drain is the idea that over the summer break, students lose some of what they learned in the previous school year due to a lack of learning. According to the National Summer Learning Association (NSLA), most students lose two months of mathematical skills every summer.
By encouraging your child to learn over the summer, you will help reduce the effects of summer brain drain.
How to prevent the summer brain drain?
Keep your child engaged in learning during the summer!
- Provide access to books at home! Go to your local library and stock up on books. Here are some great books to fill your shelves with this summer:
- Summer reading challenge: Create goals to help establish a healthy reading habit for your little one.
- Trips to the zoo or museum.
- Get out and play- stay active and learn from your environment. Children learn through outdoor activities and active play. Some great things you can do outside include: gardening, hiking, looking at the clouds/stars, and meeting little insect friends.
- Join a summer camp! Summer Camps are a great way to expose your little one to educational activities in a fun and social environment.
Summer Camp with Crème
At Crème de la Crème, our integrated summer camp program blends fun and recreational adventures with activities that have learning outcomes.
With exciting field trips and fun summer themes, your child will experience age-appropriate activities and adventures to grow and develop during the summer. To beat the summer heat, Crème de la Crème has an onsite water park*. We offer ancillary opportunities such as tennis, basketball, or soccer camps. *Amenities vary by location
We provide a Think Stretch program where the students review what they learn in the previous school year. Included is a companion workbook to send home with the parents so you all can work on things at home and help resist the inevitable summer brain drain!
Benefits of Summer Camp
