El Mictlan Vegan and Vegetarian Cuisine
For plant-based Mexican food, check out El Mictlan Vegan and Vegetarian Cuisine at 1102 Sawdust Road in nearby Spring. Dive into a savory veggie taco platter with three double tortilla tacos served with onion, fresh cilantro, lime, and your choice of guisado (stewed vegetable filling). Try a classic platter of three handmade fried quesadillas filled with cheese and a selection of guisado, topped with sour cream, lettuce, and pickled onions.
You should also try the three handmade sopes (a fried corn masa base with savory toppings) or El Mictlan’s sopes, which come with black beans and are topped with lettuce, Mexican cactus salad, and sour cream.
If you’re feeling extra hungry, you can’t go wrong with the enchilada platter, which comes with five cheese-filled enchiladas that are served with your choice of red green or salsa, topped with more cheese, enchilada sauce, cilantro, chopped onions, and sour cream, and served with a side of Mexican rice. Visit El Mictlan Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
For take-out juices and ready-to-eat meals or meal-prep dishes that you can warm up at home whenever you want, stop by SO Veganly at 26510 Border St., Spring, Texas. This restaurant specializes in vegan, organic, alkaline, and herb-infused meals, desserts, and drinks. All meals are soy-free, corn-free, gluten-free, and made with love. SO Veganly only uses only fresh, flavorful ingredients to fuel your body and soul. It also offers convenient online ordering. Put in your order by Wednesday for a Saturday pickup from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Wisdom Vegan Bakery and Cafe
For delicious baked goods, meals, and drinks, experience the magic of Wisdom Vegan Bakery. It’s located at 25192 Interstate Highway 45, Suite 103, also in Spring. More than just a place to eat, Wisdom Vegan Bakery provides a warm and welcoming ambiance that you have to experience to appreciate.
It offers lunch specials, such as the gluten-free sweet chili cauliflower and stir-fried quinoa, or you can try one of the sandwiches or wraps, including a sandwich of seasoned chickpeas on multigrain toast or quinoa veggie wrap with hummus, sun-dried tomatoes, quinoa, carrots, cucumbers, and lettuce, all rolled up in a sun-dried tomato wrap.
Wisdom has regular black coffee and flavored lattes with your choice of almond or oat milk, or you can enjoy a traditional Macchiato or Cappuccino made with almond or oat milk. The jumbo cupcakes are a huge draw with flavors changing daily, including a rotation of Funfetti, gluten-free Funfetti, strawberry matcha, peanut butter and jelly, and others.
You’ll find a delicious array of vegan desserts, including fudge brownies, cookies, chocolate or strawberry croissants, cookies, blueberry or chocolate muffins, blueberry scones, and more. Cafe hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Black Walnut Cafe
If you’re looking for comfort food, check out Black Walnut Cafe at 9000 New Trails Drive. The menu is marked with vegan and vegetarian options, starting with their breakfast menu. Get a Healthier Than the Rest Omelet with egg whites, mushrooms, goat cheese, spinach, tomatoes, red onions, scallions, and fruit to start your day. They also offer a yogurt and fruit bowl, cinnamon roll French toast, lemon blueberry pancakes, oatmeal griddle cakes, and buttermilk pancakes.
For lunch or dinner, you can warm your taste buds with the spinach and artichoke dip served with corn tortilla chips. For a lighter appetite, you’ll find creamy tomato basil soup, a Santa Fe salad, and a Black Walnut salad. The avocado and egg toast features two eggs, lemon pepper, tomatoes, and avocado mash on wheat toast. Check out the Beyond Burger, a meatless burger option topped with white cheddar, tomatoes, mixed greens, pickled jalapenos, pickles, and jalapeno aioli on a wheat bun featuring fries or house-made potato salad. You can also get Beyond Tacos made with Beyond Meat.
Black Walnut also offers a grilled cheese sandwich with fries on the kids’ menu as a vegetarian option. For sides, you can choose from garlic mashed potatoes, house fries, sweet potato fries, house-made potato salad, cheesy penne pasta, Asian green beans, pesto squash zucchini, street corn, and honey slaw. For those diners also avoiding gluten, Black Walnut offers a gluten-free menu with many of the same vegan and vegetarian options. The restaurant is serving Sunday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and until 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Fielding’s Local Kitchen & Bar
Another upscale restaurant offering plant-based options is Fielding’s Local Kitchen & Bar, located at 26400 Kuykendahl Road. Start your meal with the cauliflower hummus with socca and cucumber or the fried okra with Tabasco mayonnaise. Lighter appetites can enjoy the arugula ranch, Caesar, baby kale, or small green salads.
Try the vegetable coconut curry masala with cilantro, peanut chutney, and turmeric rice as your main course. If you’re craving pizza, check out the truffle spinach artichoke or Margherita pizzas at Fielding’s. Add a signature cocktail, glass of wine, draft, or seltzer to complete your meal. Lunch is served Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with Happy Hour from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and dinner service starting at 5 p.m. You can also visit Fielding’s on Saturday and Sunday for brunch from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
