The Writer’s Block

A great starting place for your book exploration of Las Vegas is The Writer’s Block, a Las Vegas institution located right downtown. Besides an extensive book collection, there’s also a coffee shop on site, a young writer’s workshop, and, interestingly, an artificial bird exhibit. The Writer’s Block also hosts a number of events, including multiple interest-specific book clubs for you to join. Great Wall Bookstore

For those with an interest in Chinese literature and culture, the Great Wall Bookstore is a fantastic spot to check out. Located right downtown, this bookstore has been open since 1995. This bookstore has an incredible inventory of English and Chinese texts, all hand-chosen by the proprietors. Besides books, they also sell a huge range of Chinese and Asian toys, games, and souvenirs. Whether you have an education in Chinese history or not, the Great Wall is definitely worth a visit on your next trip to Las Vegas.

Dragon Castle Books

This shop has been family run since 2014, and they take great pride in the selection and quality of the books they offer. If you’re looking for specific rare titles, especially in the science fiction genre, Dragon Castle Books is a great place to look, either in person or online.

Alternate Reality Comics

Billed as Las Vegas’s oldest comic book shop, Alternate Reality Comics is a great place to stop on your Vegas bookstore tour, especially if you’re into illustrated stories. Inventory includes classic comic books, like Superman and Batman, but also graphic novels, with new releases and zines. Co-owner Katherine Mathieu also runs an online webzine called “Sequential Tart,” written by women who adore comics.

Bauman Rare Books

You can truly find anything in Las Vegas, and that includes books. Bauman Rare Books provides some of the most interesting books in the world. You’ll encounter incredibly rare first editions and literary novelties like original, handwritten letters from well-known authors. Located in the lobby of the famous Palazzo Hotel, Bauman Rare Books is accessible for guests to pop in and view the collection on their way to the casino or club. It’s a truly amazing bookshop to check out if you have the opportunity.

For the true rare book collector, Amber Unicorn Books also has an impressive collection of first editions. The knowledgeable staff is happy to help you in person or over the phone to ensure you find the perfect book.

The Psychic Eye Bookshop is a small, local chain of new age books shops with three locations around the Los Angeles region and three to explore in Las Vegas. This bookshop specializes in new age texts, with books from genres like divination, astrology, and herbology. Besides books, the Psychic Eye also sells aromatherapy supplies, incense, candles, and amulets. You can also receive a psychic reading or a personalized astrology chart during your visit.
